Bitter Single Guy Helps Break the Shackles of Love
Dear Bitter Single Guy: I have been with my girlfriend for almost 4 yrs but I have strong urges to meet other girls, flirt, teach windsurfing overseas or do marine tourism up north without her. I want to be single and enjoy life more than staying home and I guess I'm a bit bored when I think about it. Am I just being stupid or is this natural? -- Feeling a Four Year Itch
Dear FFYI: Lucky, lucky you! The Bitter Single Guy doesn't find that people get to the core of relationships as quickly as you seem to have. Here's the good news FFYI: you are completely normal and all these things you want to do are completely normal.
There will always be "teaching windsurfing overseas" (The BSG doesn't think you mean this as a metaphor, but it's a nice one, eh?) to entice you away from your stable, reliable, relationship. It is the BSG's experience that there are always partnered folks yearning to be free as well as single folks longing for the shackles of love. So, although you're probably on your way to dumping your sweet girlfriend, don't believe that this is a long term solution. Here's the basic choice available FFYI: be partnered and miss out on many festive activities and life experiences, or be single and miss out on a deep connection with another human. You pick.
