Wisdom Comes Late, Sometimes
Dear Bitter Single Guy: I recently met this gal who I totally fell for. Before her, I was playing ladies left and right - just for a quick fling, no strings. So I think Karma is paying me back now. I think we are soul mates, but we right now we're going to go our separate ways. So, I found your column and read your advice - thank you. It helped me deal and confirmed that this infatuation will die if I can just get through this first week without talking to her. -- Eating my feelings
Dear Grasshopper: You have grasped the elusive truth about infatuation and although the BSG has written about it many times (and experienced it many times), he and his readers still sometimes forget what you remind us of here.
Folks, read the definition with the BSG… "Infatuation: A foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction." Those early parts of a relationship where you can't stop thinking about someone, you drive by her house to see if the light is on, and you moon over the sound of his voice on his answering machine, are all just infatuation. Well meaning friends will say you're in love, but you and the BSG both know that you're not. Grasshopper, take a few breaths, create some distance and don't make any major purchases or sign any contracts. You have gained much wisdom and the Bitter Single Guy is pleased to have been your honored teacher in this learning opportunity.
